Jugantar Education Program (JEP)

The constitution of the people’s republic of Bangladesh gives right to all children to have an integrated, mass-oriented and general education system and describes to take efficient initiatives to expand the free compulsory education for every body. Government announced the compulsory primary education act in 1990 for the fulfillment of the commitment mentioned in the constitution regarding the primary education for all. The law is very important in this connection that it confirms the right for getting education for children. Although free and compulsory primary education system allows up to class V for all children, the rule fixes the range of the formal primary education 6 to 10 years. JSUS gives importance to the right of children to prepare its every work-plan in line with the national plan of action for ‘education for all’. One of the important goals of the JSUS is to ensure nice and healthy environment for every children in society. Every child has the right to have the facilities permitted by family and society, and authorized by the state. With a view to establishing their right, JSUS, at the time of field work, have understood that the avoided under-privileged children are lagging behind to have the rights of education, health, residence, food, garments and others. Education is one of the fundamental needs for children. No nation can prosper without having education. Besides, education is needful to disseminate the knowledge of right. At the time of inception of the organization, the Executive Director started conducting the sub-formal education system from her own finance and curriculum. This free education center, situated in the premises of her own residence, was participated by those children who are used to collecting the destroyed part of necessary imported goods like onion, garlic, rice in khatunganj, chaktai, korbaniganj which are the main commercial areas of Chittagong. In addition, some students are working as helpers in the bazaar who are school disoriented.


With the help of technical assistance and finance from BRAC, five primary schools were established in a distance village of Patiya upazilla in 2003. There are more five schools were established in 2009 to 2011. Following the successful completion, there are more eight schools were settled down in Anowara Uppazilla of Chittagong. Through these activities, education to class five was given to drop out and disoriented to school students whose age were 8 to 11. In every school, one teacher was for thirty (22 Boys & 8 Girls) students and one organizer for ten schools. To ensure the quality education, regular monthly refresh programs and other activities are going on by JSUS. Students from the distant areas of Patiya and Anowara uppazilla of Chittagong district are getting these facilities with the help of BRAC education assistance program. Parents meeting are holding regularly side by side the main study program where some social issues relating to human trafficking, sanitation, tree plantation, and arsenic mitigation are also discussed.

The objectives

  • To encourage drop out and disinterested to school students to be school oriented.
  • To give opportunity of education for the children of remote place.
  • To prepare the parents for the take care of their children’s education.
  • To develop concept of parents regarding the improvement of their children.
  • To develop conscious parent class.
  • To develop brigade who will help for literacy and consciousness.
  • To add long-term foundation training to the existing education program.

  • East Shahmirpur sub-formal school-2
  • South Shahmirpur sub-formal school-1
  • South Shahmirpur sub-formal school-2
  • North Juldha sub-formal primary school.

The number of total learners of these schools is 150.

The above mentioned matters are discussed in the meeting. Everybody (parents) in the meeting is committed to maintain the consciousness regarding the discussed subject. In addition, regular orientation activities are conducted in the presence of guardians and children relating to these education activities. In parallel, the class three passed students are sent to the nearest govt. and non-govt. primary schools for admission, and post-admission follow-up is done consequently. We also prepared to our 240 students when will be graduate at class V, we admit them nearest government, semi-government and non-government schools in 2015. Moreover, through the JSUS micro-finance program, financial support is given to the children connected to these education activities.
